Acreage mowing in Upper Brookfield.

If you live here, you know what "out of town" actually means. And you probably know what it means to watch an operator give up on the steep section.

Upper Brookfield is the most remote and the most demanding suburb we service. Sitting in the foothills of the D'Aguilar Range, it covers 36.5 square kilometres and has a population of fewer than 900 people — which means the blocks are large, the community is small, and most properties have rarely changed hands. Many have been in the same family for decades.

Upper Brookfield Road is the main artery, terminating in the north-west of the suburb at the edge of the national park. Beyond that is the D'Aguilar Range, Gold Creek Reservoir, and thousands of hectares of hiking and riding trails. Properties on the western end of the suburb back directly onto that landscape.

The commute to the CBD runs to 35 to 45 minutes on a clear run. Most residents have made a deliberate choice about that trade-off, and the properties reflect it: large, private, established, and in many cases actively managed for wildlife and bush regeneration alongside the maintained paddocks.

Why Upper Brookfield is the most challenging terrain we work

The slopes here are steeper and more sustained than anything in Pullenvale or Brookfield. The ridgelines running down from the D'Aguilar Range produce extended side slopes and steep gully faces that rule out most standard mowing equipment entirely. Properties that have been described in sales listings as requiring a specialist operator were not exaggerating.

Moggill Creek rises in the west of Upper Brookfield and meanders south-east through the suburb before entering Brookfield. The creek corridor defines the lower boundaries of many properties and creates a distinct weed and vegetation challenge — Guinea grass and para grass on the lower slopes and margins, Guinea grass and signal grass on the upper cleared paddock areas, and increasing vine weed pressure (cats claw creeper, Madeira vine) along the creek-line margins.

The Ventrac 4520P with dual wheels is rated for continuous operation on slopes up to 30 degrees — which is the operating specification, not the absolute limit. Most of Upper Brookfield's maintained paddock areas fall within that envelope. On the steeper sections, we assess gradient during the site walk and tell you clearly what we can and cannot work safely.

Distance and scheduling

Upper Brookfield is the furthest point in our service area from the Pullenvale base, and that's reflected in how we schedule jobs there. We typically batch Upper Brookfield work to minimise transport time, which means lead times may be slightly longer than for the closer suburbs. Recurring clients get priority scheduling.

For properties that haven't had a regular maintenance programme, the first visit is usually the most time-consuming. Guinea grass at 2 metres across an upper slope that hasn't been touched in 18 months is a genuine day's work before the finishing work begins. We estimate at the site walk and won't commit to a quote before seeing the property.

Pricing

Day rate: $1,600 + GST. Fuel at actual cost, receipt attached. Transport included.

Upper Brookfield properties typically take 1 to 2 days for a standard visit due to property size and terrain. Establishment visits on neglected blocks can take longer. We estimate at the site walk and invoice for actual time worked.
